The port of Gibraltar reported a rise in marine fuel operations during the last month, with 476 vessels calling for bunkers. This figure represents an increase of 27 calls compared to August of the previous year (449) and 12 more than July's total (464). Over the first eight months of the current year, a total of 3,809 vessels sought marine fuel in Gibraltar, marking an increase of 355 calls compared to the 3,444 recorded during the corresponding period in the previous year. Additionally, there were 15 commercial ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering operations, which was one less than July but nine more than in August of the previous year. Total vessel calls for all purposes reached 905.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this sustained increase in bunkering activity in Gibraltar indicates its continued importance as a strategic refueling point in the Mediterranean. High demand for bunkers can sometimes lead to minor delays or increased port traffic, which could indirectly affect vessel schedules.
