The Port of Antwerp-Bruges, in collaboration with Inceptio Technology and logistics firm Group-GTS, is set to initiate a commercial pilot program this autumn involving autonomous trucks. This initiative will see self-driving vehicles continuously transporting containers between Group-GTS's depot in Kallo, located on the left bank, and multiple container terminals situated on the right bank of the port.
This project represents a significant step towards integrating advanced automation into port logistics. The initial phase focuses on establishing a reliable and efficient shuttle service for container movements within the port area.
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, this development could lead to improved predictability and potentially faster turnaround times for container movements within the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The 24/7 operation of autonomous trucks might alleviate some pressure on manual labor, reduce waiting times, and contribute to more consistent cargo flow.
