Sagepoint Logistics has announced its intention to significantly expand its fleet of trucks powered by renewable natural gas (RNG). The company plans to double its current RNG-fueled vehicle count, a move supported by its parent entity, Sagepoint Energy, which produces its own RNG. This internal supply chain for fuel is expected to provide a competitive advantage, as RNG typically costs less per gallon than diesel.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this expansion signals a growing trend towards sustainable transportation options in road freight. Increased availability of RNG-powered fleets could offer more environmentally friendly choices for inland transport, potentially impacting carbon footprint reporting and customer demand for green logistics. The cost savings associated with RNG could also translate into more stable or competitive pricing for certain lanes, although this would depend on the specific operational models and market conditions. Forwarders should monitor the expansion of such fleets as they seek to meet sustainability targets and manage fuel costs for their clients.
