Wärtsilä has secured a contract to supply engines for two new inland waterway pusher tugs being constructed by the Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Rio Maguari. Each tug will be equipped with three Wärtsilä 20 engines. These vessels are designated to support the river logistics activities of LHG Mining, specifically operating on the Paraguay-Paraná waterway.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies an investment in regional inland waterway infrastructure. While not directly impacting global container rates or major ocean routes, it suggests improved efficiency for bulk cargo movements within South America's interior, potentially leading to more reliable transit times and capacity for commodities originating from or destined for this region. This could indirectly affect multimodal routing decisions for shipments connecting to deep-sea ports.
