Cathay Cargo, the freight division of Cathay Pacific, is set to transfer its operations in Mumbai from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to the recently developed Navi Mumbai International Airport. The airline has not yet specified if this relocation is a temporary measure or a permanent change. This move is expected to streamline cargo handling and improve connectivity for shipments moving through the region.
In addition to the Mumbai operational shift, Cathay Cargo is expanding its global network by introducing Astana, Kazakhstan, as a new destination. This expansion into Central Asia signifies a strategic effort to tap into emerging markets and provide broader connectivity for shippers.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the relocation of Mumbai operations could mean adjustments in ground handling procedures and potentially improved turnaround times due to the new airport's infrastructure. The addition of Astana offers new direct air cargo options for routes connecting Central Asia, which may lead to new trade opportunities and potentially more competitive rates for shipments to and from the region.
