Sierra Leone's maritime flag is making substantial progress towards being added to the Paris MoU White List. This advancement comes after a notable decrease in vessel detentions, indicating improved compliance with international maritime standards.
The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMARAD), under the leadership of Alexandros Stylianou, has implemented stricter oversight measures. These efforts have led to better performance in Port State Control inspections during the most recent assessment period.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, a country's inclusion on the Paris MoU White List signifies a lower risk of port state control detentions for vessels flying that flag. This can lead to more predictable transit times and reduced operational delays and costs associated with inspections and potential detentions. It also enhances the reputation and reliability of the flag, potentially making it a more attractive option for shipowners and charterers, which indirectly benefits forwarders by offering more stable service options.
