FIATA, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations, is seeking urgent clarification from airlines concerning the rapid implementation of changes to the IATA Direct Air Waybill (DAWB) framework. These amendments are scheduled to become effective on July 1, 2026, on an expedited basis, as determined by the IATA Cargo Agency Conference.
FIATA has noted that the formal review process, typically required before such changes are enacted, has not been adhered to. This deviation from established procedures is a primary concern for the organization, which represents the interests of freight forwarders globally.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this situation creates uncertainty regarding the precise nature and implications of the upcoming DAWB changes. Without proper clarification and adherence to review processes, there is a risk of operational disruptions, potential non-compliance issues, and increased administrative burdens. Forwarders need clear guidance to update their systems, train staff, and ensure smooth cargo processing, especially given the short timeline for implementation.
