Stena Line has finalized an agreement to acquire the RoRo vessel Somerset from CLdN. The vessel, built in 1999, measures 183.4 meters in length and offers 2,504 lane meters of capacity. The transaction is pending final closure and transfer, after which the Somerset is slated to begin service on Stena Line's Dublin-Liverpool route by early December.
For freight forwarders and logistics operations managers, this acquisition signifies an increase in available capacity on the vital Dublin-Liverpool corridor. This could lead to improved schedule reliability and potentially more competitive rates for RoRo cargo moving between Ireland and the UK. The added vessel capacity offers greater flexibility for planning shipments, especially for time-sensitive goods or those requiring RoRo services.
