FAIRPLAY Towage Group has commissioned Sanmar Shipyards to construct six new tugboats as part of a significant fleet expansion initiative. These vessels are slated for delivery over a two-year period, with the first units expected in 2027 and the remainder in 2028. The order includes three Robert Allan Ltd.-designed tugs, specifically the TRAktor 2500-SX class, which are known for their operational versatility.
This investment reflects FAIRPLAY's strategy to modernize and grow its operational capacity across different maritime sectors. The new tugs will be deployed for a range of duties, including harbor assistance, escort services for larger vessels, and more demanding offshore operations. This expansion is crucial for maintaining competitive service levels and meeting the evolving needs of the shipping industry.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, an expanded and modernized tugboat fleet can contribute to improved port efficiency and reliability. Enhanced tug capabilities can lead to quicker vessel turnarounds, reduced waiting times, and safer navigation in congested waterways or challenging conditions. This indirectly supports schedule reliability for container and breakbulk vessels, potentially mitigating delays and optimizing overall supply chain flow. The long lead time for delivery (2027-2028) indicates a strategic, long-term outlook rather than an immediate capacity crunch.
