Germany-based TT-Line and Finland's Viking Line have established a Joint Operation Agreement (JOA) to introduce a new ferry route. This service will operate between Vuosaari, located near Helsinki, Finland, and Muuga, Estonia. The collaboration signifies TT-Line's expansion into the ferry market connecting Finland and Estonia. The two companies plan to operate this route jointly without forming a separate entity.
Viking Line's financial commitment to this arrangement is estimated to be around €10 million. TT-Line has indicated that a suitable RoPax vessel for this new service will be announced in the coming month.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this new service introduces an additional option for RoPax cargo movement between Finland and Estonia. It could potentially offer increased capacity and improved schedule reliability on this specific trade lane, impacting routing decisions and potentially freight rates for roll-on/roll-off cargo. The introduction of a new operator and a dedicated service may also foster competition, which could benefit shippers.
