Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania formally agreed on a joint action plan during Connecting Europe Days 2026. This initiative aims to accelerate the development and upgrade of essential cross-border transport infrastructure within Southeast Europe. Key areas of focus include modernizing railway networks, improving road connections, constructing and enhancing bridges over the Danube River, and strengthening the links between maritime ports and inland logistics terminals.
This collaborative effort seeks to foster greater regional integration and economic development by facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies potential improvements in transit times and reliability for shipments moving through the Balkans and connecting to broader European and international networks. Enhanced infrastructure could lead to more efficient routing options and potentially reduce operational costs in the long term, particularly for multimodal shipments utilizing sea, road, and rail within the region. The focus on port-to-terminal connections is especially relevant for optimizing intermodal transfers.
