Yangzijiang Xinfu Shipbuilding, a private Chinese shipbuilder, has successfully delivered the Yangze LNG 01, a 175,000 cubic meter (cbm) dual-fuel LNG carrier. This delivery represents a notable achievement, as it is the first membrane-type LNG carrier of this capacity constructed by a private shipyard in China. Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) played a crucial role, providing classification services and technical support throughout the vessel's construction.
The Yangze LNG 01 is equipped with a GTT Mark III Flex membrane containment system, known for its advanced technology and efficiency. This system boasts a theoretical daily boil-off rate of only 0.085%, indicating minimal cargo loss during transit. The vessel's dual-fuel capability allows it to operate on both conventional marine fuel and liquefied natural gas, contributing to reduced emissions and enhanced environmental performance.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the increasing delivery of advanced LNG carriers like the Yangze LNG 01 signals a growing trend towards more sustainable maritime transport options. While this specific vessel is for LNG transport, the broader shift to dual-fuel ships can influence bunker prices and carrier choices for other cargo types in the long term, potentially leading to more environmentally compliant shipping lanes and services. This expansion of the global LNG fleet supports energy supply chains and could indirectly impact the availability of vessels and routing decisions for project cargo requiring specialized transport.
