Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) recently commenced construction of a new, third jetty at its LNG terminal located on Jurong Island. This development marks a significant expansion for the facility, as the new jetty will specifically cater to small and mid-scale LNG carriers, accommodating vessels ranging from 5,800 to 80,000 cubic meters in capacity. This dedicated infrastructure will complement the existing larger vessel berths at the terminal.
The project is projected to be completed and operational by the second half of 2028. Once functional, the third jetty is expected to significantly boost the terminal's capabilities, supporting an estimated two million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG bunker reload demand. Additionally, it will be equipped to handle break-bulk operations, further diversifying the services offered at the terminal.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this expansion signifies enhanced regional bunkering options and potentially more flexible shipping solutions for smaller LNG parcels. The increased capacity for LNG bunkering could contribute to more competitive pricing and improved availability for vessels operating in the Singapore Strait and Southeast Asia. The ability to handle break-bulk cargo also suggests potential for specialized project logistics, offering new opportunities for coordinating complex shipments through Jurong Island.
