Approximately 25% of surveyed drivers reported spending more than an hour on average to find an appropriate parking spot. This scarcity of parking leads to various problems, including unsafe driving maneuvers as drivers attempt to find last-minute parking, and a rise in criminal activity targeting parked trucks and their cargo.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this situation translates into potential delays in transit times, as drivers may be forced to stop earlier or drive longer than planned to secure parking. It also increases the risk of cargo theft and damage, which can lead to higher insurance costs and claims. The added stress on drivers could also contribute to fatigue, impacting delivery reliability and overall supply chain efficiency. Germany was specifically highlighted as a region where these parking challenges are particularly prevalent.
