French road transport companies are reportedly facing exclusion from a fourth round of government financial support, initially intended to help mitigate rising operational costs. The French government has indicated that hauliers should be able to absorb these increased expenses by adjusting their transport tariffs.
This decision has drawn strong criticism from OTRE, a prominent French road transport industry association, which deems the government's stance unfair. Furthermore, OTRE highlights that many transport companies are still awaiting payment from previous aid packages, exacerbating their financial strain.
For freight forwarders and logistics managers, this situation could translate into continued upward pressure on road freight rates within France. Without government subsidies to offset fuel and other operational cost increases, carriers will likely pass these directly onto their clients. This might lead to higher domestic transport costs and potentially impact the competitiveness of French exports and imports relying on road haulage.
