DHL and Absa Group have formalized an agreement to extend their GoTrade program throughout critical markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. This strategic partnership combines DHL's logistics expertise with Absa's financial services to empower Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The program focuses on providing SMEs with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate cross-border trade, participate in e-commerce, and effectively reach international markets.
The initiative has already seen success, with approximately 1,600 SMEs in Uganda having completed the training. The GoTrade program is also currently operational in Kenya and Botswana, indicating a phased expansion approach across the region.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this expansion signifies a potential increase in demand for international shipping and related services originating from African SMEs. As more businesses gain the capacity to trade globally, there will be a greater need for efficient, reliable, and cost-effective logistics solutions. This could lead to new opportunities for freight forwarders to offer tailored services, including customs brokerage, cargo insurance, and last-mile delivery, to a growing segment of the African market. It also highlights the importance of understanding the specific needs and challenges of SMEs in emerging markets.
