NYK Line announced the naming and launching ceremony for its new hybrid-electric cruise ship, Amane, held at the Maehata shipyard in Sasebo City, Japan. The vessel is designed with a hybrid electric propulsion system that also integrates fuel cell technology, marking a step towards more sustainable maritime operations. This new ship is intended to succeed the Lady Crystal, which currently serves as a restaurant ship in Tokyo Bay.
Following its launch, the Amane will undergo interior outfitting and other preparatory work. Its delivery is anticipated in March 2027, with the commencement of its operational service projected for May 2027.
