Kögel Trailer, in partnership with TSR Resource and REMONDIS, has commenced a pilot project focused on the circular economy for commercial vehicles. The initiative aims to recover and reuse materials from discarded trailers in the manufacturing process of new ones. The goal is to produce a Kögel trailer incorporating the highest possible proportion of recycled materials within the next one to two years.
This project, announced at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, represents a significant step towards enhancing sustainability within the road transport sector. By closing the loop on material usage, the companies seek to reduce waste and the demand for virgin resources.
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, this development signals a growing trend towards more sustainable logistics solutions. While not directly impacting immediate rates or capacity, it highlights the industry's shift towards greener practices, which may influence procurement decisions for fleets in the long term.
