K Shipbuilding and Lloyd's Register (LR) have initiated a joint development project to create a 50,000 DWT Medium Range (MR) tanker that utilizes ethanol as fuel. The collaboration, announced at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, seeks to achieve Approval in Principle (AiP) from LR. The primary objective is to introduce a commercially viable and competitive vessel design for the product tanker market.
Under this agreement, K Shipbuilding will lead the overall vessel design and development efforts. Concurrently, Lloyd's Register will provide technical reviews, assessing various aspects such as vessel arrangements, stability, structural integrity, and the integration of fuel tanks. The project will also explore opportunities to enhance the vessel's design and operational efficiency, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulations.
