Inmarsat Maritime, part of Viasat, has been granted Cyber Security Type Approval by Bureau Veritas (BV) for its NexusWave connectivity solution. This certification follows a thorough evaluation against the cyber resilience standards established by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS).
The NexusWave service aims to provide reliable and secure internet access for vessels, integrating multiple networks to ensure continuous connectivity. The BV certification validates that the system's design and implementation adhere to stringent cybersecurity protocols, crucial for protecting operational technology and sensitive data on board ships.
For freight forwarders and logistics operations managers, this development signifies an improvement in the security and reliability of maritime communications. Enhanced cyber resilience in vessel connectivity can reduce the risk of cyber incidents that could disrupt shipping schedules, compromise cargo data, or impact vessel operations. This contributes to more predictable and secure supply chains, particularly important for managing real-time tracking and communication with vessels at sea.
