The Port of Amsterdam recently unveiled a dedicated charging station for heavy electric vehicles at its Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA). This facility is equipped with twelve fast-charging points, each delivering 375 kW of power. It is primarily intended for electric trucks, electric coaches, and electric waste collection vehicles, aiming to electrify heavy transport operations within the port and surrounding areas.
This initiative leverages the existing shore power infrastructure at the port, which was originally installed to provide electricity to vessels. By repurposing and expanding this capacity, the port can now support the growing fleet of electric land-based vehicles, contributing to its decarbonization goals.
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, this development signifies an important step towards greener last-mile and regional distribution options. The availability of high-power charging points can reduce range anxiety for electric truck fleets, potentially making electric road transport more viable for port-related logistics.
