Grupo Puerto de Cartagena's Contecar container terminal in Cartagena, Colombia, has received the first five of 25 new Konecranes electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry (eRTG) cranes. This delivery marks a significant step in the terminal's ongoing efforts to modernize its equipment and improve operational efficiency. The full order of 25 eRTGs will substantially increase the terminal's capacity for handling containers.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this investment in new, more efficient equipment at Contecar is likely to translate into improved vessel turnaround times and faster container processing. Enhanced terminal efficiency can reduce potential delays for shipments moving through Cartagena, a key hub in Latin America, ultimately benefiting supply chain reliability and potentially reducing demurrage or detention costs.
