Allelys has successfully executed the complex transport of three individual 114-tonne transformer phases. The operation commenced with specialized road haulage from Blackhillock, utilizing bespoke equipment to manage the significant weight and dimensions of the cargo. Following the initial road leg, the transformers were transferred to coastal vessels for shipment between Buckie and Dundee, demonstrating a strategic use of sea transport to bypass potential inland road restrictions or reduce transit times.
Upon arrival at Dundee, the units were once again loaded onto specialist road transport for the final leg to Alyth. The project culminated in the precise heavy-lift installation of each transformer onto its foundation at the Alyth substation. This integrated approach, combining various transport modes and specialized lifting, is typical for large infrastructure projects.
