Starting August 31st, companies and organizations will be able to submit applications for special exemptions to utilize the Westerschelde Tunnel's East Tube. This allowance is specifically for the duration of the tube's extended closure for maintenance. The initial phase of applications will focus on critical traffic, including freight and goods transport, as well as essential work vehicles.
This measure is being implemented because the tunnel will have severely restricted capacity during the upcoming maintenance work. For freight forwarders and logistics operations, securing such an exemption will be crucial for maintaining efficient road transport routes in the region. Without it, companies would face significant detours and potential delays, impacting delivery schedules and operational costs. Forwarders should assess their need for this route and apply promptly to ensure continuity of service.
