The UK Chamber of Shipping has published a new report titled "Alternative Fuels: Building the Safety Evidence Base," which provides preliminary high-level risk assessments for several emerging marine fuel options. The study, which draws on the first year's work of the Safety of Alternative Fuels Working Group (SAFWG), evaluates five distinct fuel pathways: battery energy storage systems, biofuels, methanol, hydrogen, and ammonia.
These risk assessments were developed through collaborative expert workshops and cross-sector validation.
