Royal Burgers and Emons Group have announced a joint venture to develop an advanced Double Deck trailer. This new generation of trailers will evolve from the current Double Deck concept, focusing on increasing its adaptability and integration into daily logistics operations. The primary goal is to enable two trips to accomplish the same volume of cargo movement that currently requires three, significantly boosting efficiency and potentially reducing costs.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development could lead to notable improvements in road freight logistics. Increased trailer capacity per trip means fewer vehicles on the road for the same volume of goods, which could translate into reduced transport costs and lower fuel consumption. This efficiency gain might also alleviate pressure on driver availability, a persistent challenge in the road freight sector. Forwarders could benefit from optimized route planning and potentially faster transit times for certain types of cargo, especially those suitable for double-deck loading.
The initial public unveiling of this new trailer technology is scheduled for September at the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition in Hannover. This presentation will provide further details on the trailer's capabilities and its potential impact on the logistics industry.
