Colruyt Group is set to commence practical testing of two hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCEV) supplied by Scania. These vehicles will be integrated into the retailer's daily logistics operations to evaluate their performance in real-world scenarios. The trucks, part of Scania's exclusive Pilot Partner program, are among only twenty units built globally.
Each FCEV truck boasts an operational range of approximately 800 kilometers and is capable of handling a maximum gross combined weight of 50 tons. This initiative aligns with Scania's broader strategy to research and develop sustainable transport solutions, focusing on alternative fuels and advanced propulsion technologies.
For freight forwarders and logistics managers, the successful deployment and scaling of hydrogen trucks could offer a zero-emission alternative for road transport, particularly for longer hauls where battery-electric vehicles might face range limitations. This development could influence future fleet investment decisions and contribute to decarbonization efforts in European road freight, potentially impacting operational costs and regulatory compliance in the long term.
