Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has officially inaugurated its first dedicated international freighter service. Hong Kong Air Cargo is operating this new route, establishing a direct air cargo link between Hong Kong and Navi Mumbai.
The service will operate three times per week, utilizing an Airbus A330-200F aircraft. Each flight offers a substantial cargo capacity of approximately 60 tonnes, facilitating both import and export movements. This new connection is expected to enhance air cargo connectivity for the region.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this new service introduces a direct and scheduled air cargo option for the Hong Kong-Navi Mumbai lane. The consistent weekly frequency and dedicated freighter capacity could offer improved reliability and potentially more competitive rates compared to belly cargo options. It provides a valuable alternative for shippers moving goods between these key Asian hubs, especially for time-sensitive or high-value commodities. Forwarders should monitor capacity utilization and potential rate impacts as the service matures.
NMIA has indicated plans to further expand its air cargo services by adding more routes and increasing flight frequencies in the future, signaling a growing focus on its role as an international air cargo hub.
