Wison New Energies (WNE), a Chinese company specializing in clean energy services, has confirmed a new agreement with Italian energy major Eni and Altera Infrastructure. The contract involves the construction of a new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. This FPSO unit is designated for deployment in the upcoming phase of an oil and gas development project situated off the coast of Côte d'Ivoire in West Africa.
For freight forwarders, this development signifies future project cargo opportunities. The construction and deployment of an FPSO involve the movement of heavy-lift and oversized components, requiring specialized logistics for both the fabrication phase in China and the eventual transport and installation in West Africa. Forwarders should anticipate potential tenders for breakbulk and project cargo services, including heavy-haulage, ocean transport of modules, and potentially air freight for critical components, impacting specialized vessel capacity and routing to the region.
