Roboat, an Amsterdam-headquartered company specializing in autonomous systems for waterborne transport, has appointed Joshua Jordan as its new Chief Executive Officer. Jordan, who has been with Roboat since its inception, takes over from co-founder Unse Reinema. This leadership transition is intended to facilitate the company's expansion and scaling of its operations.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, advancements in autonomous water transport, while currently focused on smaller-scale applications, could eventually influence last-mile delivery and urban logistics for certain types of cargo. As these technologies mature, they may offer new, efficient, and potentially more sustainable options for moving goods in congested waterways or for specialized transport needs, impacting routing and operational planning in the long term.
