South Korean cable manufacturer Taihan Cable & Solution has announced the delivery of its second dedicated cable-laying vessel, named Taihan Gloria. This new addition significantly expands the company's operational capabilities for installing subsea cables, particularly those required for offshore wind farms and other marine infrastructure projects. The vessel was constructed in Norway, highlighting international collaboration in specialized shipbuilding.
This acquisition follows the delivery of their first cable-laying vessel, the Taihan Star, in 2023. The rapid expansion of their fleet underscores Taihan's strategic focus on the growing global demand for high-voltage subsea cables, driven largely by the renewable energy sector.
For freight forwarders and project logistics managers, this development signals increased capacity for specialized heavy-lift and project cargo movements in the subsea and offshore wind sectors. It suggests more options for transporting large cable drums and associated equipment, potentially easing scheduling for complex projects. The enhanced fleet could lead to more competitive bidding for large-scale cable installation contracts, impacting the demand for port marshalling areas and specialized transport services in regions with active offshore wind development, such as Europe and North America.
Taihan Cable & Solution plans to deploy the Taihan Gloria to support its expanding project pipeline across various international markets, with a particular emphasis on opportunities in Europe and North America. This strategic move aims to solidify the company's position as a key player in the global offshore cable installation market.
