Finnish refiner Neste has announced it will provide Neste MY Renewable Diesel to the Tara Polar Station, a drifting laboratory operated by the Tara Ocean Foundation. This renewable fuel will be utilized during the station's inaugural 18-month expedition, scheduled for 2026-2027. The expedition marks the beginning of a two-decade-long research program, involving collaboration with 30 scientific institutions.
The Neste MY Renewable Diesel is intended to replace conventional fossil fuels in the polar station's energy systems, which operate in challenging Arctic weather conditions. Approximately 90% of the renewable diesel will be allocated to power generators and heating, supplementing wind and solar energy sources. The remaining 10% will be used for the station's propulsion.
