Kongsberg Maritime has entered into an Extended Thruster Coverage (ETC) agreement with KOTUG International. This contract is designed to provide comprehensive, long-term service and maintenance for the propulsion systems of five newly constructed Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs. These vessels are slated for deployment in West Africa, where they will support offshore terminal operations.
The five tugs feature an identical configuration, which allows them to be managed as a unified fleet under the terms of this service agreement. This approach is expected to enhance operational efficiency and simplify maintenance logistics for KOTUG.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, while this agreement does not directly impact freight rates or capacity, it underscores the ongoing investment in reliable maritime infrastructure. The consistent performance of offshore support vessels is crucial for the smooth operation of port and terminal activities, particularly in regions like West Africa where such services are vital for handling larger vessels and facilitating cargo movements. Enhanced reliability of tugs can indirectly contribute to better port turnaround times and reduced potential for delays in cargo handling at offshore terminals.
