Altera Infrastructure has been awarded a contract by Italian energy company Eni to supply a newbuild Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. This FPSO will be deployed for the next phase of Eni's oil and gas development project located off the coast of Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa.
This project signifies continued investment in offshore energy infrastructure, particularly in the West African region. The deployment of an FPSO is a critical component for extracting, processing, and storing hydrocarbons from deepwater fields, enabling subsequent offloading to shuttle tankers.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development indicates potential future demand for specialized heavy-lift and project cargo services. The construction and deployment of an FPSO involve the transport of large, complex modules and equipment, often requiring breakbulk shipping solutions and intricate logistics planning for both the fabrication phase and the offshore installation. This could lead to opportunities for handling oversized cargo and managing complex supply chains to support the project's various stages.
