ArcBest, along with its less-than-truckload (LTL) division ABF Freight, has announced a general rate increase of 5.9% on average. This new pricing structure will take effect on June 22, 2026. The decision to raise rates is attributed to the continuous escalation of operational expenses for carriers.
This rate adjustment comes amidst a broader trend of increasing spot rates across all segments of the North American freight market, which saw significant jumps during the initial five months of 2026. Such increases are often a response to factors like fuel costs, labor expenses, equipment maintenance, and insurance premiums.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this LTL rate hike means higher transportation costs for smaller, consolidated shipments. Forwarders will need to update their pricing models and communicate these changes to their clients. Shippers should anticipate increased budgets for LTL services and may explore options for optimizing shipment sizes or consolidating freight to mitigate the impact.
