Turkish Airlines, in partnership with its maintenance arm Turkish Technic, has formalized an agreement with CFM International for the procurement of over 600 LEAP-1B aircraft engines. This significant order includes spare engines and is intended to power a fleet of 100 firm-ordered and 50 optional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The comprehensive deal also encompasses a long-term service agreement that will cover all of Turkish Airlines' LEAP-1B engines, including those previously ordered and already in service.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signals a substantial expansion of Turkish Airlines' narrow-body fleet. While the 737 MAX primarily serves passenger routes, increased passenger flight capacity can indirectly impact air cargo operations by potentially freeing up belly cargo space on other aircraft types or by influencing overall network efficiency. A larger, more modern fleet could lead to greater schedule reliability for combined passenger and cargo services, offering more consistent options for airfreight shipments.
