German ferry company TT-Line is set to inaugurate a new intermodal rail connection within Lithuania, operating between Klaipėda and Vilnius. Commencing on October 19th, the service will provide two round trips each week. This initiative aims to integrate the Lithuanian capital directly into TT-Line's existing ferry network, which serves various destinations in Scandinavia and Western Europe.
This development provides freight forwarders and logistics managers with an additional option for transporting goods between Lithuania and the broader European market. The direct rail link to Klaipėda, a key port, facilitates seamless transfers to sea routes, potentially streamlining supply chains and offering more reliable transit times compared to purely road-based alternatives. This could be particularly beneficial for cargo destined for or originating from Scandinavia and other Western European countries, reducing reliance on single-mode transport and diversifying routing strategies.
