Poland's state-owned freight operator and infrastructure manager, PKP LHS, has announced its intention to purchase 12 new diesel locomotives. These locomotives are specifically designed for the company's 1,520 mm broad-gauge rail network, which primarily serves connections with Eastern European countries.
This procurement initiative is part of PKP LHS's strategy to modernize its fleet and improve the efficiency and capacity of its broad-gauge operations. The investment is expected to support increased freight volumes and enhance the reliability of rail transport on these specialized lines.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies a potential improvement in rail freight capacity and service quality on the broad-gauge network connecting Poland with its eastern neighbors. Enhanced locomotive availability could lead to more stable transit times and potentially greater flexibility for cargo moving between these regions, impacting routing decisions and overall supply chain planning for goods utilizing this rail corridor.
