Hexagon Agility recently unveiled a Freightliner Cascadia sleeper tractor featuring its advanced natural gas fuel systems. The truck integrates both back-of-cab and side-mount compressed natural gas (CNG) tanks, providing a substantial combined fuel capacity equivalent to 265 gallons of diesel. This initiative aims to expand the viability of natural gas as a cleaner fuel alternative for long-haul trucking operations.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the introduction of more natural gas-powered long-haul trucks signifies a growing trend towards decarbonization in road transport. While natural gas infrastructure is still developing in some regions, increased availability of such vehicles could offer more sustainable inland transport options, potentially impacting fuel costs and emissions reporting for shippers. Forwarders might see new routing possibilities or preferred carrier options that utilize these alternative fuel trucks, contributing to greener supply chains.
