Duisport, the operator of Europe's largest inland port, is significantly enhancing its rail freight connectivity between the northern Adriatic Sea and Germany. The company is introducing four new weekly round trips, linking the intermodal terminal in Cervignano, Italy, with Duisburg, Germany. This expansion is designed to strengthen the rail corridor, particularly benefiting cargo flows through the Port of Trieste.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this increased frequency offers several advantages. It provides more reliable and frequent options for moving goods between Central Europe and the Adriatic, potentially reducing transit times and offering greater flexibility in scheduling. The improved connectivity can also help in diversifying routing options, especially for cargo originating from or destined for the Mediterranean and beyond, utilizing Trieste as a gateway. This development supports the shift towards more sustainable transport modes by leveraging rail for long-haul movements.
