Scania and Toyota have announced a collaboration to conduct practical tests of hydrogen fuel cell technology for heavy transport applications. Under Scania's Pilot Partner program, forty heavy commercial vehicles will be outfitted with Toyota's latest third-generation fuel cell system. The first hydrogen-electric trucks are slated to commence operations in the first quarter of 2027. This partnership is designed to allow both manufacturers to thoroughly investigate the performance characteristics of fuel cell electric trucks.
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, this initiative represents a step towards decarbonizing road freight.
