Osaka Gas Co. announced the successful completion of the first ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering operation in Osaka Bay, Japan. The Seto Azure, an LNG bunkering vessel owned by Osaka Bay LNG Shipping Co. and operating through INTEGR8 FUELS PTE. LTD, delivered LNG fuel to an unnamed pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) while it was calling at the Port of Kobe. This milestone operation is expected to enhance the reliability of LNG fuel availability in the Osaka Bay area.
This development is crucial for the Port of Kobe as it aims to achieve Carbon Neutral Port status. The availability of STS LNG bunkering facilities supports the transition of more vessels to cleaner fuels, aligning with global efforts to reduce maritime emissions.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this signifies a growing infrastructure for LNG-fueled vessels in a key Japanese port.
