The Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD), in collaboration with industry partners, has concluded a study demonstrating that existing large harbor craft in Singapore are qualified for B100 biofuel adoption. The research indicates that successful integration is contingent upon the implementation of appropriate fuel-handling, storage, and additive practices.
The study involved comprehensive evaluations, including controlled laboratory testing and sea trials utilizing a tugboat and a bunker tanker. Key areas assessed were fuel storage stability, engine performance, emissions, and overall operational readiness. The results from these evaluations were described as highly encouraging.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a potential shift towards more sustainable bunkering options in Singapore, a major global maritime hub.
