Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) is undertaking a significant expansion of its container terminal located at Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam. This project, estimated at around 500 million euros, represents the final phase of development for the terminal. Upon completion, RWG will feature a fourth berth specifically designed to handle the world's largest container vessels.
The primary objective of this expansion is to substantially increase the terminal's operational capacity. The total annual throughput capacity of RWG is projected to reach approximately 5 million TEUs once the new berth is fully operational. This enhancement is critical for accommodating the growing volumes of global container traffic and maintaining Rotterdam's competitive edge.
