HHLA's subsidiary METRANS has finalized a substantial expansion of its intermodal terminal located in Poznań/Gadki, Poland. This upgrade introduces two new remote-controlled railway gantry cranes, extends existing tracks, adds new ones, and expands both storage and service areas. As a result, the terminal's maximum storage capacity has increased from 8,850 TEU to 11,800 TEU, while its annual handling capacity has also seen a significant rise.
This investment by METRANS aims to strengthen its network in Central Europe, particularly enhancing rail freight capabilities. The Poznań terminal serves as a crucial hub for connections between Western Europe and the Baltic Sea region, as well as routes extending towards Ukraine and other Eastern European destinations.
For freight forwarders and logistics operations managers, this expansion signifies improved efficiency and increased capacity for intermodal rail shipments through Poland. The enhanced handling capabilities and larger storage area could lead to faster turnaround times and greater reliability for cargo moving via rail, particularly for transshipments between different European regions. This development may also alleviate potential bottlenecks and offer more flexible routing options for shipments utilizing the Central European rail network.
