Portsmouth International Port has announced the first commercial connection of a cruise ship to its newly operational shore power system. The Virgin Voyages' vessel, *Valiant Lady*, successfully utilized the electrical hook-up, enabling it to power onboard systems without running its engines, thereby reducing emissions and improving local air quality.
This development follows the system's full operational status at the end of last month. Prior to the commercial launch, the shore power infrastructure underwent a testing phase, during which Brittany Ferries' *St Malo* and *Guillaume de Normandie*, along with cruise ships *AIDAsol* and *Amera*, successfully connected and drew electricity.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this initiative highlights a growing trend in port infrastructure towards sustainability.
