Lauritzen Bulkers A/S has announced the launch of its second methanol dual-fuel kamsarmax bulk carrier, named the Bold Bulker. This 81,200 dwt vessel was launched on August 12 at Tsuneishi Shipyard in Cebu, Philippines. This development follows the launch of the company's first methanol dual-fuel vessel, the Brave Bulker, from the same shipyard on June 22.
Both the Bold Bulker and Brave Bulker are reportedly owned by Lauritzen NexGen Shipping A/S. This initiative aligns with Lauritzen Bulkers' stated commitment to low-emission vessels, as highlighted in their Annual Review 2025, which mentions the ownership of three low-emission Kamsarmax vessels.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the introduction of more methanol dual-fuel vessels by carriers like Lauritzen Bulkers indicates a growing trend towards sustainable shipping options. While these specific vessels are bulk carriers and not container ships, the broader move towards alternative fuels suggests potential for reduced emissions in supply chains. As more such vessels enter service, it could contribute to meeting sustainability targets and potentially influence future carbon pricing or regulatory compliance costs, though direct rate impacts for containerized cargo are not immediate.
