German port employees, represented by the Verdi union, have commenced warning strikes at key maritime gateways, including Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven. This action follows the breakdown of wage negotiations between the union and employers. Approximately 11,000 port workers are participating in the industrial action, which began tonight.
For freight forwarders and shippers, these strikes are likely to cause significant operational disruptions. Anticipate potential delays in vessel berthing, cargo loading and unloading, and overall terminal operations at the affected German ports. This could lead to increased lead times and potential congestion, impacting supply chain schedules for cargo moving through Northern Europe.
