Bulgarian customs authorities in the port of Varna recently confiscated a significant quantity of undeclared and potentially infringing children's goods. During inspections of two containers that arrived by sea from China, officials discovered a total of 64,492 items. The consignment included approximately 60,000 light-up bracelets and several thousand toys depicting well-known cartoon characters.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, such seizures highlight the ongoing risks associated with cargo inspections, particularly for goods originating from regions known for counterfeit production. This incident underscores the importance of thorough due diligence in supply chain management and ensuring that all cargo declarations are accurate and complete to avoid delays, fines, and potential legal repercussions related to intellectual property infringement. Forwarders should advise shippers on the strict customs regulations regarding product authenticity and declaration accuracy, especially for consumer goods.
