Tersan Shipyard in Türkiye has initiated the construction of a new ultra-large cable-laying vessel (CLV). This specialized vessel is being built for a South Korean entity, marking a significant development in the maritime construction sector. The CLV is engineered for the installation of subsea cables, which are essential for various offshore projects, particularly in the growing offshore wind energy industry.
This project underscores the increasing global demand for specialized vessels capable of supporting complex marine infrastructure. The construction of such a large-scale cable layer highlights ongoing investments in renewable energy infrastructure, particularly offshore wind, which requires extensive subsea cabling for power transmission.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the development of new cable-laying capacity signals continued expansion in the offshore energy sector. This may lead to increased demand for project cargo logistics, heavy-lift services, and specialized transport for components related to offshore wind farms and subsea infrastructure. It also indicates potential for future projects requiring complex port logistics and vessel scheduling for large-scale equipment movements.
